The Roadside Tavern Pub and Restaurant
One of our favourite spots to eat in Clare is in Lissdoonvarna called the Roadside Tavern, family run very close to the Cliffs of Moher (8km), The Burren, the Aran Islands, Doolin, Ballyvaughan and Lahinch. It has become the central meeting place for many people for well over a hundred years.
Food is amazing, ask for Kieran Curtain the owner
The Roadside Tavern, was nominated for Best chef, Best Restaurant, Best Customer service, Best Gastro Pub, Best emerging Irish Cuisine at the Irish Restaurant Awards 2018In 2011, The Curtins embarked on a new venture: they set up the Burren Brewery in the Roadside Tavern in Lisdoonvarna.
Three amazing beers are brewed here – Burren Gold (lager), Burren Red (ale) and Burren Black (stout) are one of only three micro-breweries mentioned in the Lonely Planet Global Craft Beer Guide!
The Burren Gold Lager
The Burren Red
is a spicy, slightly sweet ale which even
features a hint of smoke. It seems to
become the favourite among the punters.
The Burren Black
not have to fear the competition of a
certain other black stuff. It is smooth
and full-bodied, with a creamy crown of
froth on top – and definitely alive inside!
A heavenly drink.

In 2011 Peter Curtin set up the Burren Brewery in the Roadside Tavern in Lisdoonvarna. The building, which in 1865 started off as a pub, then was expanded into a bakery, now also harbours a micro-brewery under its roof.
Other Things To Do on Cliffs of Moher Day Tour
One of our our favourite stops is to the small village of Lisdoonvarna, its a spa town and the gateway to the Burren, and a short distance on my way to the Cliffs Of Moher day tour. It has become the central meeting place for many people for well over a hundred years.
Located in the heart of the Burren In Co. Clare. It is easily accessible from both Galway and Shannon. Located in the Burren’s terraced mountainside, has one of the most beautiful views of Galway Bay. It is a must for all who find themselves in the Burren.
